MIMS organizes core and interdisciplinary research activities in mathematics and is the research arm of the School of Mathematics in the University of Manchester. - Professor Nick Higham's paper "The Scaling and Squaring Method for the Matrix Exponential Revisited" appears in the SIGEST section of SIAM Review, Dec. 2009. SIGEST "highlights an exceptional paper, chosen for its readability and wide appeal to the SIAM community".
- Saralees Nadarajah has been awarded the 2007 Jacob Wolfowitz Prize by the American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences for his paper "Exact Distribution of XY for the Elliptically Symmetric Pearson Type II Distribution".
- Professor Paul Glendinning has been awarded the Catherine Richards Prize by the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications for the best article published in Mathematics Today in 2008.
